Message from Pokot- Kenya

Created by Andrew 5 years ago

Dear Posy, You will be sadly missed by all the Bradbury Friends and also by the new friends you made in Pokot- Northern Kenya.

Peter and Monica Endoo and their daughter Dinah sent a message this morning with their love and prayers for you Richard and your family.

(Peter Endoo is the District Agricultural Officer for this region in Kenya- about three times the size of Devon and 400 miles from the capital Nairobi- Posy worked with a small NGO in the area and started a goat breeding project in the 1980's)

'Without Posy the Goat development project would not have happened. Posy arranged the shipment and the training of  24 females and one Billy of the Toggenburg breed for 24 women from the womens' groups she trained with Dinah. Posy was very generous to us and nothing was ever too much in sharing her time and love. She had a very generous heart for those in need.'

I visited the Endoo family two months ago and there are now 150 families who have benefited from the improved goat progeny with much increased milk and meat production. More than 1500 people have been helped to date !

I first met Posy when I was a new member of the Mole Valley Farmers' Farming Aid to Africa committee- Posy ran the meetings with John James and Brian Peace. Posy- with her organising skills- raised most of the money from Hunt balls, sponsored events and dinners. The charity later merged with  Farm Africa- an important player in development in Africa today which Posy went on to support for many years. She was always full of good ideas and kept the projects moving.

We also had some memorable trips to Africa. Once, Richard hired a modest (cheap) 4-wheel drive vehicle for our journey from the Cherangani hills to Nairobi after a successful visit to projects in western and Northern Kenya. Unfortunately, the bonnet flew up and smashed the windscreen when we were still in the mountains. Richard and I tried to fasten it with string but it flew up again and again. The rain and monkeys had full entry to our safari ! Posy was not at all worried and enjoyed the adventure. Richard and I were not so amused !

We have lost a very talented, generous and gifted development mind and heart. Africa and Devon will miss her.
