Holiday adventures

From as long ago as I can remember the majority of my holidays were spent with the Stockman family, from trips to Cumbria and Scotland to the most fantastic adventure to the previously named Yugoslavia, a journey I will never forget. There was never anything 'normal' about these holidays which is probably why they had such an impact on me as a young child. A trip to Scotland in the Land Rover complete with Casper the parrot taking pride of place on Posy's lap, the rain hammering down on the metal roof of the converted horse trailer making it impossible to speak, let alone sleep, and mine and Phebes' hopeless attempt at baking Posy a cake for her birthday in the caravan oven. It was virtually raw but my darling aunt showered us with praise and managed to eat a piece!

The Yugoslavia adventure was nothing short of incredible. Posy and Richard found places so remote it felt as though we were the first people ever to have travelled there. We told stories under the stars and found scorpions under rocks; we swam and dived and competed as to who could splat the most mosquitoes on the roof of the Land Rover but what I remember most of all was a huge feeling of love and  warmth and never feeling as if I wasn't one of Posy and Richard's own children. I remember marvelling at the many many bags in the food storage box which had been designed to fit in between the rear benches of the Land Rover and Posy's incredible ability to know exactly what was in each bag...God help anyone who interfered with the system!!:) A lifetime of memories will live on, Posy was a second mother to me and I am forever grateful to both her and Richard for showing me a life which encouraged freedom and adventure. I will miss her deeply
